Shoei builds the RF-1400 around its AIM+ fiberglass composite shell, a layup chosen to keep weight reasonable at 1520 grams for a size medium while still meeting both DOT and Snell M2020 certification, a tougher pairing than DOT alone. Our bench score puts protection at 80, helped by a dual-layer EPS liner engineered with varying densities across the shell so different impact energies get managed differently rather than by one uniform foam layer. The CWR-1 shield is Pinlock EVO ready and swaps without tools, and emergency quick-release cheek pads are built in for safer removal after a crash, a detail that matters more than it should until you actually need it.

It holds up well over repeated wear thanks to the washable 3D Max-Dry lining, and against rivals like the Arai Regent-X it trades some of Arai's round-shell philosophy for Shoei's quieter, more ventilated approach. Riders with narrower, intermediate-oval head shapes will get the best fit; those with rounder faces may find the cheek pads snug until they break in.
